OCT 10 - MON - LOS ANGELES.  Midday flight to Tokyo.

OCT 11/12 - SAPPORO. 
Arrive Tokyo and a connecting flight to Sapporo, home for 2 nights.  Convenient city-center accommodations and 2 easy days in Sapporo.  On the 12th - Orientation walk to the nearby, large, subterranean mall, ideal for long cold winters - to Tanukikoji Arcade & the huge city fish market. For lunch, enjoy Hokkaido’s famous "Sapporo Ramen" and for a delicious dinner - "Hokkaido King Crab."  EXCEL TOKYU HOTEL [BLD]

OCT 13 - SOUNKYO GORGE/LAKE AKAN. 
Tour of Sapporo – the Clock Tower, Hokkaido Jingu and Olympic Mountain.  Drive the scenic countryside to Sounkyo Gorge, flanked by rock walls & festooned in Fall colors.  Alpine scenery as we drive through and over the “Roof of Hokkaido,” Daisetsu National Park to the Hokkaido Lake district and Lake Akan.  Lakeside accommodations with refreshing hot springs baths this evening.  NEW AKAN HOTEL [BLD]

OCT 14 - LAKE MASHU/KUSHIRO. 
Today we visit the Hokkaido Lake District – the warm waters of Lake Kussharo and mysterious Lake Mashu, a perfect crater lake, with deep rock walls circling it.  On to the southern ice free port city of Kushiro for the evening.  ANA CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL KUSHIRO [BLD]

OCT 15 - KUSHIRO/SAHORO. 
While in Kushiro, visit Shitsugen National Park, noted for its wetland - rich in flora and fauna, including the iconic Tanch-zuru “red-crested” white crane.  On to central Hokkaido and the winter resort district.  Comfortable hot springs accommodations for the evening.  SAHORO RESORT HOTEL [BLD]

OCT 16 - SHIRAOI/LAKE TOYA. 
To the Pacific Ocean and Shiraoi Ainu Village and a study in Ainu culture - see Japan’s newest volcano, Showa Shinzan and overnight at neighboring Lake Toya Hot Springs.  Crisp yukatas, hot spring baths, a Japanese “kaiseki” dinner and fireworks on the lake completes our day in Hokkaido.   TOYA KANKO HOTEL [BLD]

OCT 17 - HAKODATE. 
Morning drive to Hakodate, 3rd largest city in Hokkaido and the first port opened to the world in 1854.  Visit star-shaped, 1857 Fort Goryokaku, where the last battle of the Tokugawa forces was lost in 1869.  Climb Mt. Hakodate for 360 degree vistas of the peninsula and the surrounding sea.  HAKODATE ROYAL HOTEL [BLD]

OCT 18 - SAPPORO CHITOSE AIRPORT. 
Return drive along the southern shores of Hokkaido to Sapporo – Chitose for our final evening on tour.  Farewells at dinner this evening.  HOTEL GRAND TERRACE [BLD]
 
OCT 19 - WED - SAPPORO/TOKYO NARITA/LOS ANGELES. 
Our tour disbands after breakfast.  Return flights to Los Angeles included.  Tokyo stopover allowable at extra charge.  [B]
